This is an all time winter favourite (especially in the Northern Hemisphere during their winter season) However, we celebrate Christmas in July and so we need a little something to lift up our weary spirits during this morbid and cold season.
This is an easy-to-make Gluhwein recipe that us guaranteed to leave a warm smile on your face!
You will need the following:
- ¾ cup of orange juice
- 8 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 orange
- 750ml bottle red wine of your choice
- ¾ cup of white sugar
Mix the sugar, water and the cinnamon stick in a saucepan and bring it to the boil – then reduce the heat and allow to simmer. Squeeze the orange juice obtained from the cut orange half into the simmering water. Place the cloves into the outside of the orange peel and put into the simmering water – allow to simmer for about 30 min until it has a sticky consistency.
The next step involves you pouring the wine and heating until steaming but not simmering. This would be the time to remove the orange peel and clove.
Serve in mugs or glasses that are warm –cheers!!
